I think you should keep her. She'll grow on you. There's a chance that maybe when you sell her you'll regret it. If you don't like her on display put her in a closet for a while and then see what happens. Perhaps you need to find out what it is about her that you don't like. Or have a good long talk with your doll, maybe you'll like what she has to say! LOL

Susan, I feel exactly the same way about Josefina's face mold on Nellie. When Josefina was first released in 1998, I thought her face mold was different because she was Hispanic. I do believe that was the intention at the time. This is why the same face mold looks great on Marisol. It does not suit a strawberry blonde Irish girl. This is also my concern about using Kaya's face mold for Elizabeth. I think this particular face mold is that of a Native American and I don't think it will look right on Elizabeth.

I have gone back and forth about Nellie. At first, I didn't like her at all, then I decided I did - and now I'm back to my original feeling. It's not actually that I don't like her, I just think the face is all wrong.

Susan...I had almost the same problem.

I was so excited about getting Nellie when she first came out, that I pre-ordered her. When my daughter was litte, we used to dream of a Nellie doll for Samantha.

When she came, I did not like her. I tried...but I just couldn't connect with her. So I sold her.

Then, I started to really want her a few months later. Now that my family gave her to me for my b-day, I just love her. She's my favorite of my dolls.

It's weird, but for me, I have to be in the right frame of mind to accept certain dolls. And I don't always like a doll if I buy her just because I want her. I almost need to ask for her, then wait and see if someone will give her to me as a gift. Weird, I know.

I think I would give it some time, if I were you. On the flip side...she is sold out until March 30th on the web site. So you might make a profit on eBay.

My mom and I went to AGPC this summer, just after Nellie's release. My mom planned to get Josefina, and I was excited to get Nellie.

Nellie was the first doll we saw, right there in the window. I must have looked really disappointed, because my mom asked me what was wrong. I told her Nellie didn't do anything for me.

We shopped and shopped all that night and the next day, and I still had not picked out a doll. That night, just before closing, I sat on a little couch between the Nellie and Molly displays, debating my decision. For no pin-pointable reason, I didn't want Nellie anymore, but I kind of felt badly about changing my mind.

So, I got down on the floor in front of Molly's display window and started opening the doll boxes. When I found the perfect Molly, plump but not too plump, I was done shopping.

I see pictures of Nellies sometimes that make me want her, just for a second. (She's my look alike doll too.) But I always change my mind.

It's okay to not bond. I have a pre-Mattel AGoT here that I can't get into either. She's in a box in the closet. I feel badly, but I just didn't fall for her. I hope she doesn't suffocate in there!

It is the books that make the dolls "real". Go back and read the books . If you judge the dolls on their visual appeal you atr making them into ordinary dolls not American Girl Dolls.

If you don't connect with her, I would keep her.

I had that problem with Marisol and the new Kit. I call her the new Kit because the Kit that I got did not look like the old Kits that I have seen. I really wanted to like them but I couldn't. I don't miss them at all now. But if I did see a Kit that looked like the old kind, I might buy her.

    Red face

I got Nellie when she first came out and there was something that I just didn't like about her. I was so excited because she had all of my features too: bangs, same length and color of hair, freckles and blue eyes. She was sort of a "like me" doll. I was so put off by her that I ended up selling her. Earlier this month I thought maybe I had misjudged her and changed my mind by ordering her again (thanks in part to the CODE).

I'm having the same exact feelings. I've tried changing her clothes, styling her hair, etc. I still don't "oohh ahhh" when I look at her. Her face mold looks GREAT on Josefina and Marisol...but it doesn't seem right for her. I'm not sure what it really is about her but she doesn't seem to fit in.

So, I'm wondering if I should return her (actually selling her would be more cost effective because of paying to ship her back). What do you guys think and is anyone else not a big fan of the doll or am I alone?

I'm sorry you're not too pleased with your new Nellie, Susan!

Didn't you have trouble connecting with your AG dolls before, and end up buying/selling them? That must be a tough cycle to be in. I got attatched to my Nellie pretty quickly, but I could see where she just wouldn't click with some. Maybe you could keep her away in a box for a week or so before you put her up for sale and see how you feel then... maybe absence would make the heart grow fonder?

    Good luck deciding!

    Hey Susan,

That's exactly how I feel about Nellie. I just don't understand why I don't like her that much, I can't put my finger on it. I like that face mold too, on Marisol and Josefina, but on her it just doesn't really look as nice to me. I've kept her to go with Samantha's collection, but she is my least favorite AG.

I don't have Nellie, but I am thinking about getting her. I have seen her a number of times at the store. At first, I did not like her look, but now she is growing on me. The thing that made me like her is the movie. I think the actress that plays Nellie is the cutest little thing. I like Nellie's personality from the book, but the freckle-faced actress did it for me. I guess I am a sucker for freckles because I love Maisie, our AGOT 23 with freckles, too.
